A nineteen (19) year old suspect was arrested in a crypto scam related case. The unnamed teen is booked for the alleged robbery of unreleased songs from a globally renowned recording company to trade them against cryptocurrency.

The suspect allegedly accessed the company’s website and cloud-based accounts illegally and thus had to be detained by City of London Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) and Manhattan District Attorney’s (DA) office.

Crypto scam or just an innocent attempt?

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the organization that represents the interests of the recording company worldwide, tipped PIPCU off about the whereabouts of the miscreant who allegedly stole the label’s music.

IFPI expressed that he might be a resident of the United Kingdom. IFPI’s tip led the City of London Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) to search North London and locate the suspect from his residence in Ipswich.

On the arrest, an inspector from PIPCU Nick Court addressed the media while applauding their partners at work, IFPI and Manhattan District Attorney’s office, for their tireless efforts in the case.

In his media address, Inspector Court said that artists, i.e. music producers put unfaltering efforts in their art to make people happy; and acts of pilfering are unjust to these hardworking artists as they bear the financial and intellectual loss.

He further explained how this arrest might prove to be a pivotal change as it would exemplify the fate of pilferers such as the suspect. He also directed his speech towards the international companionship IFPI and Manhattan’s District Attorney Court has shown, which strengthened and accelerated the productivity of authorities and their operation against the respondent.
