Russian Human Rights Commissioner requests laundering suspect from Greece

Alexander Vinnick the former cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e owner and an investor is currently living in Greece however, the Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkva has requested his extradition from the government of Greece in his official request.

The request has been made to the Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights of Greece in order to bring back the suspected owner of the cryptocurrency exchange. Vinnick has been accused of laundering billions in the United States dollars. It is however unclear who Vinnick was working for and where did the money go.

Vinnick is currently in the custody of Greek authorities since July of 2017 and he has also been on a hunger strike since November 2018 demanding his return to Russia. Vinnick is currently holding a hunger strike in protest of the adverse conditions of the clinic he is held at, according to the Russian Commissioner.

Vinnick has reportedly lost about thirty-percent of his weight (30%) and has agreed to end the hunger strike on the request of Russian Commissioner. On the other hand, Commissioner Moskalkva has requested in the letter to Greek Minister Michalis Kalogir that the Vinnick is not only suffering due to his health conditions but going through a marital issue as well.

Commissioner explained that his wife is also diagnosed with cancer. He furthered that a criminal case is open against Vinnick in Russia and his return would allow the Russian authorities to complete their investigation in the case.

The letter sent to the Greek minister has reportedly been forwarded to the President of International Committee of the Red Cross, Greek Ombudsman and the head of Ministry of Health in Greece.
