Ethereum (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC) are the same yet are quite different. So which one is better, Ethereum or Ethereum Classic?

They don’t want to be mixed up, especially when Ethereum (ETH) runs on the proof-of-stake algorithm while Ethereum Classic (ETC), the parent chain from which Ethereum was forked out of, runs on proof-of-work.

The two cryptocurrencies have vast differences in their trading marks. The chart below shows how the cryptocurrencies behaved in the time-frame. These charts have been taken at 11:00 UTC on 26 August 2019.

Ethereum trades at one hundred and eighty-nine dollars ($189) while Ethereum Classic (ETC) gets picked up from the shelf for seven dollars ($7.434). Ethereum Classic (ETC) has seen a major surge in its price after the forking news went viral.

As for Ethereum (ETH), it had been at one hundred and ninety-one dollars ($191.71) trading with a good margin, earlier today.

At the time of writing this article, Ethereum (ETH) trades for one hundred and ninety dollars ($190.51).

The all-time high (ATH) for Ethereum (ETH) was attained by the cryptocurrency on January 13, 2018, which amounted to one thousand four hundred and thirty-one dollars ($1,431.77). This means that the cryptocurrency has felt a major cut in its price since its glory days of about eighty-six percent (86.73%).

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is traded for seven dollars ($7.368), at the time this article is being written. The cryptocurrency peaked out on December 21, 2017, when it amassed forty-seven dollars ($47.770). ETC price has seen a decrease of eighty-four percent (84.61%) in its price from the far-off point.

Ethereum or Ethereum Classic ROI

The one-week returns on investment (ROI) for Ethereum (ETH) are negative four percent (-4.47%) while that on Ethereum Classic are thirty-two percent (32.06%).

The one month, three months, and one year ROI for Ethereum are negative ten percent (-10.99%), negative twenty-nine percent (-29.84%), and negative thirty percent (-30.49%) respectively.

On the other hand, Ethereum Classic (ETC) has its one month, three months and one year ROIs at twenty-two (22.21%), negative ten (-10.94%) and negative forty percent (-40.42) respectively.

The year-to-date ROI for Etereum and Ethereum Classic are not that far off from each other. At forty-one (41.73%) and forty-six percent (46.57%) respectively.

Ethereum Classic is outperforming Ethereum and the reason for that it the Atlantis hard-fork going live on testnet with a release date on the mainnet of September 13.

Ethereum’s hard fork will be on the Ropsten testnet soon, but Vitaly Dmitriyevich, co-founder of Ethereum, might wait for the testnet version till October.
