As King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s May 6 coronation approaches, the Evening Standard has joined forces with digital artist Trevor Jones and Apollo NFT to release a free collection of commemorative Ethereum NFTs on Nifty Gateway, titled “The Oath.”

Claiming “The Oath” NFTs through Nifty Gateway

To claim these NFTs, collectors can use a QR code in the newspaper or on billboards along Oxford Street. The NFTs will be minted and delivered to collectors’ wallets on May 7.

Evening Standard CEO Charles Yardley praised the collaboration, which brings together centuries of tradition and history in a format that democratizes art for artists and collectors alike.

Jones initially created “The Oath” as a physical painting in his Edinburgh studio, featuring Saint Edward’s Crown, worn by Queen Elizabeth II during her 1953 coronation. The artist leveraged Layer-2 technology, which reduces the Ethereum blockchain‘s carbon footprint by 99.99%, to create an environmentally friendly collector option.

Simplifying NFT minting for new collectors

By launching on Nifty Gateway, Jones aimed to make the NFT minting process accessible to new collectors, allowing them to register with just an email address. The Evening Standard joins other media outlets, such as TIME, GQ, and Playboy, to embrace Web3 opportunities.

“The Oath” is not the first NFT collection to pay tribute to the British royal family. In September, the QueenE collection was launched to celebrate the life of England’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Jones has previously worked on NFT collections like Bitcoin Angels, Man vs. Machine, and Picasso’s Bull, showcasing the versatility of non-fungible tokens in art.
