The Centre Pompidou, the greatest museum of modern art in Paris, revealed on February 10 details of a planned permanent exhibition focusing on the relationship between art and the blockchain represented by nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

The Centre will exhibit NFTs from more than 16 digital artists from around the world, including well-known collectibles like CryptoPunk #110 and Autoglyph #25, both of which were donated to the Centre Pompidou.

According to Xavier Rey, director of the French National Museum of Modern Art,

“The Centre Pompidou is pursuing its interest in digital art, in conjunction with the blockchain.”

Rey added that this collection reinforces the museum’s support for artists in conquering new ways of expression, which is the foundation of modern art. Adding that Web3 is an exciting terrain that artists have now seized upon to create unique and daring work.

The NFT developer Yuga Labs stated the endeavor is part of a legacy project that provides Punks to eminent art institutions worldwide. Yuga Labs has owned the CryptoPunks’ intellectual property (IP) since March 2022. The business has already given CryptoPunk #305 to Miami’s Institute of Contemporary Art.

Greg Solano, the co-founder of Yuga Labs, said,

“Seeing CryptoPunk #110 shown in the Centre Pompidou, probably the most esteemed contemporary art museum in the world, is a tremendous moment for the web3 and NFT ecosystem, and we’re thrilled to help drive this cultural conversation.”

Digital objects known as NFTs have properties like uniqueness and non-interchangeability that can be verified on the blockchain. Non-fungible tokens, which are based on distributed ledger technology, can be used to verify for purchasers of one-of-a-kind things, verifying details like ownership. They are most prominent in music, art, and blockchain-based video games.
