Monex, a Japanese financial services specialist, has announced plans to start paying some of its shareholders’ dividends in Bitcoin.

According to the announcement, all of the company’s shareholders who have at least one hundred shares will be receiving Bitcoins as part of their mid-term benefit payment.

Of course, the rest of the benefits program for shareholders will remain intact, and payment of dividends in Bitcoin will come as an additional benefit.

Dividends in Bitcoin

According to Monex, the decision to start paying dividends in Bitcoin was mainly influenced by the increasing demand for cryptocurrency asset remuneration for shareholders.

For the moment, Monex will be testing out dividend payments in Bitcoin and has not confirmed whether cryptocurrency assets will remain a part of the benefits program after the end of the fiscal year.

Eligible shareholders will receive the equivalent of five hundred yen (¥500) worth of Bitcoin. Until now, shareholders were renumerated via Monex points, which were then redeemed for bonuses and rewards; however, shareholders kept demanding more diverse benefits plans.

Consequently, Monex decided to introduce a test project for dividend payments in Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrency as dividend

Monex is not the only company on the market looking to reward shareholders via cryptocurrency.

In August this year, another Japanese financial giant decided to turn to crypto as a benefit means for their shareholders. Strategic Business Innovator (SBI) Group announced that its shareholders would be receiving interim benefits in the form of Ripple tokens.

Cryptocurrency dividend payments are becoming increasingly popular among large enterprises as shareholders realize the potential of this type of asset. Not only that, but the ability to diversify their shareholder portfolio with different assets is another reason why more companies are turning to this type of remuneration.
