NSA crypto would be Quantam resistant reveals directorThe National Security Agency (NSA) has been in charge of tracking Bitcoin activity, but in the latest, an NSA crypto is also on the way.
Reports reveal that Anna Neuberger, director at the Cybersecurity Directorate, revealed that the NSA is currently developing “crypto” that would be quantum-resistant. Neuberger was speaking at the 10th Annual Billington CyberSecurity Summit held in Washington D.C.
Although the official details of the “crypto” have not been revealed Bloomberg report William Turton tweeted the initial report on the 5th of September.
NSA crypto: cryptocurrency or cryptography technology?
Neuberger furthers that the NSA would also be proposing new “hardware and software standards.” However, in the absence of further details about the “crypto,” this could mean the agency is developing a cryptography technology.
The other meaning of the term crypto may mean that the agency is developing a cryptocurrency of its own, but the possibility is less likely than the cryptography technology.
Politico report Eric Geller furthers the Turton tweet with some additional information in another tweet. According to Geller, Neuberger furthers that the NSA must work with other agencies and share not only information but expertise and experience as well.
We must play a role — with other agencies like NIST — in areas where we have unique expertise and operational experience, [in] sharing that to achieve broader effects. Because it’s in all of our interests to have products built strong.
NSA has been strict against Bitcoin since the agency has reportedly suffered directly at the hands of Edward Snowden who made the NSA leak possible using Bitcoin payments.
