Kaspersky’s blockchain voting machine to transform election technology

In this post:

Moscow-based cybersecurity and anti-virus provider company Kaspersky revealed a blockchain voting machine that could potentially be a game-changer in the traditional election technology, Verdict UK reported on Thursday.

The blockchain voting machine by the project Polys is a product of the Kaspersky Innovation Hub, which was built with an aim to foster projects and alliances that boast of breakthrough innovations, determining upcoming trends and identifying new markets for the products.

The device will provide a secure and transparent voting platform for organizations, educational institutes, and government entities. It will work in collaboration with Polys’ online voting system to ensure the effective use of distributed ledger technology in corroborating the link between the vote and the voter, thereby eliminating possibilities of double voting or frauds.

The recently-conducted Iowa Caucuses, which started with much anticipation and ended up being an epic fiasco, was heavily condemned for technical failures at multiple stages. Reportedly, several voters were unable to cast votes due to internet connectivity issues and app malfunction, resulting in the counting of partial votes. This served as a stark reminder of how over-dependence on inadequate technology can hinder the process rather than effectuating it.

Thus, the Kaspersky’s unique blockchain voting machine provides the participants with an option to either cast vote using the voting machine or use the blockchain-empowered voting tool.

The voters are essentially verified by giving a QR scan code or token, thereby enabling them to use the Polys blockchain voting machine. As soon as the vote is cast, it instantly encrypted and counted. Voters can also cross-verify their votes by using a web application.

The innovative voting machines are compatible with the Polys online voting platform, which implies that voters can choose to vote from their smartphones; however, they will be unable to cast a vote twice. The machine is, thus, devices to not only enhance security and transparency in the current election system format but also bring down costs related to manpower and additional resources significantly.
