On 13th November 2019 a Swiss-based payment processing company called Utrust announced its partnership with Alternative Airlines which will enable customers to pay by Bitcoin for flights.

One of the critical missions at Utrust is to drive mass adoption of Bitcoin, and with this step, it is one step closer to its goal. Making cryptocurrencies widely accessible and exploring their real use cases in day-to-day activities is what ultimately contributes to a broader adoption rate. That, coupled with strategic collaborations with trusted merchants, adds to instilling the much-needed trust in the relatively new domain.

Thus, Utrust decided to join forces with an upcoming and trusted online travel company called Alternative Airlines and enable millions of customers around the world to purchase flight tickets using Bitcoin.

According to the official blog post, Utrust was impressed by the travel agency’s passion for going out of its way and ensuring that customers get a unique experience and a variety of deals to choose from every time they log in to book a flight online. This is what sets Alternative Airlines apart from other online travel agencies, Utrust announced. Moreover, their far-reaching network with a myriad of airlines, including national and international airlines, will allow customers to choose from over six hundred and fifty carriers.

Customers are only required to choose their carrier, the destination, and pay using a range of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dash, and DigiByte. In addition to that, Utrust’s extraordinary value-added services like instant cross-border transactions, crypto to cash settlements, and buyer protection entirely eliminate the need to go through traditional card payment methods that otherwise end up attracting high transaction fees and currency limitations.

According to Utrust CEO Nuno Correia, flight travel can be an expensive affair, especially for someone who is saving for months to afford an air journey. Thus, safeguarding consumer interests is the least that we, as company owners, can do to ascertain security and trust. With this unique partnership, we bring increased security, transparency, and convenience of cryptocurrency payment methods to the valued customers of Alternative Airlines, who no longer need to worry about processing fees and currency types, Correia explains.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time the travel industry has ventured into the enticing world of cryptocurrencies and its underlying technology, blockchain. Earlier this month, a blockchain-based travel startup from Pakistan, Airlift, facilitated the booking of buses and vans on fixed routes with fixed stops. In another case, Miami International Airport allowed its passengers to book flights using the Bitcoin ATM installed at the airport. The service is active since mid-October.
