According to local police, the IT executive abused his position of a contractor and engaged in the illegal activity; using the systems of the government agency to mine cryptocurrency. The IT executive faces criminal charges for the abuse. Sydney police will pursue the case under the criminal code act of 1995.
Such instance of government systems being used for mining are sparse, but a few cases have been reported.
