Recognizing the risks associated with AI, companies have begun implementing “guardrails” to regulate AI behavior, even though these measures are not foolproof. These guardrails aim to prevent AI models from generating harmful content or making dangerous decisions. The need for such precautions underscores the challenges posed by AI’s opaqueness and autonomy.

Major tech companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia, which provide cloud services or GPU hardware, are driving the AI boom. They are motivated by a desire to promote their own services and products, rather than the societal implications of AI. 

Meanwhile, startups without infrastructure are seeking to inflate their valuations through bold claims about transformative technology.

This focus on profit and market dominance has led to concerns about the ethical considerations surrounding AI’s growth and adoption.

AI’s rise has also triggered legal battles, as seen in the UK Supreme Court’s decision not to allow patents registered under AI-created inventions. The ruling emphasized that inventors must be natural persons, not machines. 

Furthermore, OpenAI and Microsoft face a copyright lawsuit from authors who accuse them of unlawfully using their written work to train AI models.
